Ethnic Albanian terrorist actions on the territory of Kosovo and Metohija from January 1 to December 27, 1998

From January 1, to December 27, 1998, on the territory of Kosovo and Metohija, Albanian separatists committed altogether 1863 terrorist acts and provocations. Out of that number the material properties of the Ministry of Internal were attacked on 1112 occasions and provocations (Decani 319, Srbica 135, Klina 125, Djakovica 77, Glogovac 76, Orahovac 66, Suva Reka 58, Kosovska Mitrovica 34, Urosevac 36, Stimlje 31, Istok 21, Pec 24, Prizren 21 , Vucitrn 13, Lipljan 14 , Pristina 12 , Podujevo 21, Obilic 11, Kijevo 7, Strpce and Kosovo Polje 4 each, Kacanik 2, Vitina 1).

In those attacks 115 police officers were killed - out of that number 88 people were members of the Standing police units, while 27 were members of the Reserve police units, 216 were seriously wounded , 187 were slightly wounded, and 14 policemen were kidnapped (Orahovac 6, Decani 2, Pec, Suva Reka, Glogovac, Klina, Podujevo and Srbica - one each ). The destiny of 8 policemen is still unknown, while three of them were found executed, after being brutally tortured, and three policemen were released.

In 1084 cases the policemen were attacked while doing their official tasks (on four occasions the police choppers were under attack). In 11 cases housing object and homes of the members of the Ministry of Internal were the target of the attack, while in the rest of the cases the attacks were committed on the passenger vehicles driven by the policemen.

751 terrorist attacks and provocations were committed on the civilians and other objects, out of these 172 citizens were killed - 46 Serbs and Montenegrins, 76 Albanians, 6 Romanies, 2 person of Muslim nationality, as well as 42 unknown persons (Decani - 10 Serbs and Montenegrins, 11 Albanians, one person of Muslim nationality and 29 unknown person; Klina - 9 Serbs and Montenegrins, 15 Albanians and one Romany, one Muslim and 5 unknown person; Orahovac - 8 Serbs and Montenegrins, 4 Albanians and 3 unknown person; Djakovica - one Serb and 11 Albanians; Pec - 8 Serbs and 9 Albanians; Suva Reka - 9 Albanians and one Romany; Prizren - 5 Albanians and one Romany; Vucitrn - one Serb and 2 Albanians; Glogovac - one Serb and 6 Albanians; Lipljan - 4 unknown person; Srbica - 2 Serbs and one Albanian; Istok - one Serb and one Albanian; Obilic - one Serb; Leposavic - one Serb; Kosovska Mitrovica - one Serb, one Albanian and 3 Romanies, Kosovo Polje - one Serb ; Podujevo - one Serb and one Albanian; Stimlje - one unknown person ).

In these attacks, altogether 158 civilians were injured, out of those 74 were Serbs and Montenegrins, 72 were Albanians,10 were other nationalities and 1 was a Russian citizen and one citizen of New Zealand. 78 civilians were severely injured - 39 Serbs and Montenegrins, 34 Albanians, 5 persons of Muslim religion ( Klina - 9 Serbs and 3 Albanians; Decani - 4 Serbs, 4 Albanians and 1 Muslim; Pec - 6 Serbs, one Albanian and 3 Muslims; Djakovica - 5 Albanians; Srbica - 3 Serbs and one Albanian; Obilic - one Serb and 4 Albanians; Suva Reka - 2 Serbs and 5 Albanians; Orahovac - 4 Serbs and one Albanian ; Vucitrn - 3 Serbs; Zubin Potok - 2 Serbs; Istok - 3 Albanians; Glogovac - one Serb, one Muslim and one Albanian; Kosovska Mitrovica - one Serb; Podujevo - 2 Serbs and one Albanian; Lipljan - one Albanian; Kosovo Polje - one Serb; Prizren - 4 Albanians). 80 persons were slightly injured - 35 Serbs and Montenegrins, 38 Albanians, 3 Romanies, one person of Muslim nationality, one Russian, one Canadian citizen and one citizen of New Zealand.

Terrorists abducted 291 civilians (172 Serbs and Montenegrins, 100 Albanians - loyal citizens of the Republic of Serbia, 14 Romanies, 2 were other nationalities, one Macedonian, one Muslim and one Bulgarian). Out of that number 31 people were executed, the destiny of 142 people is still unknown, 9 of them managed to escape, while 109 persons were released.

In these terrorist actions, the Albanian separatists used, for their individual or group attacks, automatic fire weapons on 1,122 occasions, in 228 cases they used automatic weapons along with bazookas or mortars, in 104 cases sniper weapons were used, in 36 cases hand grenades, in 22 cases explosives, in 4 cases antitank mines, in 8 cases pistols. In the rest 339 cases, the Albanian terrorists committed their actions threatening to use the fire weapon.
